Guatemala City
This post is mainly for the padres so they can sleep in peace knowing that our precious heads are now protected by helmets. We took a nice little trip to the city to purchase helmets because apparently no one sees the necessity of them here in Pana. Michael and the family left on Sunday and spent the night with some friends, so they could get up at a decent hour to pick up one of Adele’s friends from the airport. We decided to meet them that morning before they left for the airport, making our wake-up time 4:30. It was the most miserable three hours of my entire life. Number one….and most importantly, it was freezing!! We had nothing to cover our poor little heads, and so we had to endure the wind and lack of sun. I think I had about a three hour shaking fit when we got down to the city.
At least we had the wonderful and rare opportunity of experiencing Price Smart…the Guatemalan version of Costco or Sams. Brett and I found this giant plastic bag filled with off- brand (I lack a witty name) corn flakes out of this huge hopper, and decided to purchase it. We will be eating it for weeks.
The whole day was one wild goose chase as we got sent from one store to the other to get the right size helmets. Brett was really really close to being forced to buy a yellow and purple zebra striped helmet that said “ZOOM” across the front. Unfortunately, he was able to purchase a blue one instead. I was disappointed. Anyway, we came out successful and were able to purchase “save your head…. I am not going to break while driving over a speed bump” helmets. We are sporting them below.
